Keladi Tikus
Rodent tuber (Keladi Tikus, Typhonium Flagelliforme) is a plant that came from Araceae family, its name referred to the oval shape of the root of the Typhonium Giganteum. Chinese named as baifuzi, meaning light-colored root ( bai = white ) and in common with hollow stems of trees as poisonous aconite ( fuzzy ). This plant is acknowledged to have the anti-cancer in the early 1990 ( Neoh, 1992 ) , the opinion of Western scholars, while this plant has long been used by Muslim scholars such as Avicenna in his medicine book Tibb -e- Unani. Although not widely known, but it well known among the Chinese traditional herbal practitioners (sense), for example, used in medicines Qianzheng San ( Powder recovery origins / Powder for Restoring the Normal Position ), which contains the main ingredients typhonium, silk worms, and scorpions, given to patients paralyzed due to stroke. Subsequent versions of this formula is a drug Yifeng (drugs prevent sputum wind) and ingredients from Qianzheng San blended with Uncaria, Siler and tabasheer (a type of bamboo extract). Many other Chinese ancient medicines use Keladi Tikus as the main ingredient in their medicines.

In Sichuan Chinese Pharmacological History book, it is written that the element weights for typhonium is "warm and sweet, chelate and sharp, toxic and it can cure gastric and joint pain caused from a blood disorder". In 1995-96 a lecturer from the School of Biological Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Prof Christopher Teo Kheng Hoe, a botanical said, 'Keladi Tikus' found by chance when a cancer patient ask him to grow the plant, which is believed can cure a cancer, when he was  in the study of plant breeding, he promised to help propagate 'Keladi Tikus' and through research conducted on Typhonium Flagelliforme, Teo said, patients show positive effects after consuming the plant and the patient will feel better, not aesily tired and have the quite appetite before consuming Typhonium Flagelliforme herbs.

How Typhonium flagelliforme work?
Typhonium flagelliforme / Keladi Tikus assist detoxification in the blood system. Studies show that Keladi Tikus contain high Arginine. These ingredients will improve when given in conjunction with other herbs, such as sambiloto, an pearl white and grass. These ingredients contain inacting ribosome protein (RIP), antioxidant nutrients and substances anti-curcumin. The combination of three substances in a mixture of ingredients that produce mediators that stimulate cell amplification of the immune system to eradicate cancer cells.

Anti tumor growth.
In order to evaluate whether the antiproliferative action was specific to tumor cells, the active fractions were also tested on a non-tumorigenic cell line, BALB/c 3T3. Due to the difference in growth rates for both NCI-H23 and BALB/c 3T3 cell lines, the initial seeding densities for both the cell lines were optimized to ensure that the final absorbance reading falls between the linearity range of the detector 6×103 cells / well of NCI-H23 and 1.5×103 cells / well of BALB/c 3T3 were seeded in 96-well microtiter plates. The plates were incubated for 24h for cell recovery and attachment before test samples and the vehicle control were added to the cells. This was followed by 72h of incubation. 20l of 5mg/ml MTT (Acros Organ-ics, Belgium) was then added to the cells followed by further 3h of incubation. The medium was then aspirated and the formazan product generated from the viable cells was dissolved in DMSO before being measured at 570nm against the reference wavelength of 650nm. The growth inhibitory effect of the test samples was determined by comparing the optical density of the treated sample against the optical density of the control. The inhibition concentra-tion, IC50 of the test samples was calculated using Probit Analysis (SPSS Version 12.0.1, Chicago, IL, USA). All the experiments were carried out in triplicates and three independent experiments were performed for each sample.

Several fractions of the hexane and dichloromethane extracts were found to inhibit the growth of NCI-H23 non-small cell lung carcinoma cell line significantly, with IC(50)<15 microg/ml. However, most of these active fractions were also found to inhibit the growth of non-tumorigenic BALB/c 3T3 mouse fibroblast cell line except for fraction 21 of the dichloromethane extract (D/F21). This particular fraction was not only less cytotoxic to the non-tumorigenic cells, where the IC(50) was 48.6 microg/ml compared to IC(50) 7.5 microg/ml for NCI-H23, but it was also found to induce apoptosis in the cancer cell line. GC-MS analysis revealed that D/F21 contains hexadecanoic acid, 1-hexadecene, phytol and a derivative of phytol. The presence of non-saturated fatty acids in this fraction was confirmed by nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy.
